    • About Me

    A little about myself

I'm from Belfast, Northern Ireland. Born & bred. A great city but I didn't see much opportunity for learning cyber security at Universities or on Apprenticeships there, so I decided to head to good ol' Scotland to study Ethical Hacking at Abertay University.

I'm very passionate about cyber security and loving every new area or technique I come across.

I went to the Belfast Metropolitan College to study cyber security in 2017. I learned that I loved the security field achieving D*DD with my extended diploma. There was, and still is, an overwhelming amount of knowledge to cover in this industry but I've found that's a requirement for being in it. Ever-changing.

    Raspberry Pi's!!!

In 2015 I came across a strange device called the Raspberry Pi 1. My IT teacher from my secondary school told me about the Raspberry Pi's and actually gave me one of her own for me to use and learn from. I'm very grateful for this as it led me down the path where I am now.

Described as a credit card sized miniture computer, I was fascinated with how much such a tiny thing could do. I started off by creating the common projects such as a home media center using OSMC, retropi game emulator and a desktop environment with Raspbian OS.

To venture into more uncommon grounds I attempted to make a jukebox with the raspberry Pi 3 model B using a breadboard, header/connecter cables, speaker, LCD screen and more. It looked cool, but sadly I still wasn't experieced enough to finish this project. When I got more experienced I attempted to install kali linux on the raspberry 3 to test out the popular pentest OS. However, I found it to not run very well having a lot of issues getting it setup. Also, if I remember correctly it didn't have half the tools available from the regular OS, so I decided to abandon this project back then.

I've actually recently got a raspberry pi 4 and successfully got kali linux on it now! I'm finding it to be so much better with the stronger hardware it has. With all the tools too!

    Films

Over the past couple of years I've watched an insane amount of films. On my downtime you'll most likely find me watching a movie. My favorite genre is mystery/thriller. At University I even joined the Film Society, then decided to run for the committee getting elected and becoming the treasurer of 2020/2021.

    Rubik's Cubes

I've always loved puzzles, but the Rubik's cubes are my favourite. I started off like everyone else with the original 3x3. It was tough, but very fun! I spent 3 months turning that thing every way my brain could think, before I finally had a basic understanding of the goal and method to solve it. I couldn't get past the middle stage, and finally gave in. A quick Google search and I found the offical algorithms to solve it. So I followed them, and the satisfaction on finally seeing all those muddled colours in place was something else.

I instantly fell in love with these wee puzzles, and have went on to get the 2x2, 3x1 (A pen haha) and 4x4 (just solved recently). Next is the big 5x5.
